Team members were celebrated for their commitment to providing superior clinical and compassionate care.

At Moffitt Cancer Center, excellence isn't just a goal, it's a commitment woven into every aspect of patient care.

During Patient Experience Week, Moffitt proudly celebrated the exceptional efforts of its clinics with the Patient Experience Champions Awards. This recognition highlights the dedications of different teams who are working together to deliver unparalleled care to patients and is based on the results of recent patient satisfaction surveys.

"This year, we've witnessed exceptional dedication and leadership from our teams," said Terry Payton, manager of patient experience optimization. "Their commitment to enhancing the patient experience at Moffitt has been truly inspiring. Although it's important that we have patient experience goals for the organization and the individual teams, the scores are simply a reflection of the great care we provide."

The award recipients include:

  • Inpatient: 4 North
  • Procedures Areas: Endoscopic Oncology Program
  • Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery: Ambulatory Surgery at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center at McKinley Campus
  • Outpatient Clinics: Clinical Research Unit at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Outpatient Center at McKinley Campus
  • Virtual Health: Gynecological Oncology Department

At the cancer center, prioritizing a good patient experience is not just about providing excellent medical care, it is about treating patients with dignity, compassion and respect, and ensuring they feel supported and empowered throughout their health care journey.

“Our teams are patient-centered and team oriented. Anytime we are looking to improve practices, we put our patients first. We emphasize their safety and utilize caring factors in our daily workflows. We understand that feeling cared for is vital for a positive experience and a healthy work environment,” said Valerie Hodges, patient care manager of the Endoscopic Oncology Program, one of the award-winning teams.

These champions have shown exceptional dedication, consistency and leadership in elevating the patient experience within their areas of service. Their efforts led to significant improvements in patient satisfaction scores compared to the previous fiscal year.

“Success for us is measured by our patients feeling cared for whether we have laughed with them, prayed for them, held a hand or celebrated with them. Those moments are special to our team and to our patients as well,” Hodges added.

During the celebration, each team received an award, and every team member was presented with a "Patient Experience Dream Team" pin and a certificate highlighting positive comments from patients.

These teams are celebrated for their commitment to providing superior clinical and compassionate care. Their collective efforts have not only improved patient satisfaction scores but also enriched the overall patient experience at Moffitt.
