TAMPA, Fla. (May 4, 2022) Moffitt Cancer Center is the only cancer center and the only Florida-based health system named as a 2022 Top Company for Hospitals and Health Systems by DiversityInc. This is the seventh year the cancer center has appeared on the list.

Moffitt was also named No. 10 on Diversity Inc’s list of Top Companies for Board of Directors, making it the only healthcare organization and non-profit to be included.

“Moffitt remains committed to diversity and we know it is one of our strengths,” said Moffitt President and CEO Dr. Patrick Hwu. “Valuing the skills of so many people from different backgrounds better enables Moffitt to accomplish its important mission. A recognition like this from DiversityInc is a true testament to the hard work of our Enterprise Equity team. Every team member at the cancer center should celebrate this achievement.”

DiversityInc’s annual survey — tracking the nation’s top companies when it comes to hiring, retaining, and promoting women, minorities, people with disabilities, LGBT, and veterans — is the most rigorous, data-driven survey of its kind, gauging detailed demographics based on race/ethnicity and gender at some of the largest U.S. employers.

“The rich diversity of our team members does not occur by accident. It is the result of a centerwide culture where the inclusion of diverse talents and perspectives are key to achieving the cancer centers’ mission,” said Cathy Grant, vice president, chief diversity, equity & inclusion officer of Enterprise Equity. “Getting recognized by DiversityInc puts our commitment on the national stage and we are very proud of this accomplishment. We will continue to foster diversity, sustain inclusion as a core value and further advance our pursuit of equity.”

Since 2001, the survey has been the most comprehensive, empirically data-driven diversity and inclusion analysis based on organization-submitted information from some of the largest U.S. employers. The assessment collects data across six key areas: leadership accountability, human capital diversity metrics, talent programs, workplace practices, supplier diversity and philanthropy.

The event theme for the learning sessions and dinner was “ESG: Climate & Culture at Risk.” Focusing on the S and the G, DiversityInc took an in-depth look at the impact culture has on the environment and why diversity, equity and inclusion are necessary to create sustainable change.

“The 2022 survey Cronbach Alpha Reliability score for the overall model was 0.89. Board and senior management accountability and a measured focus on equitable access to talent development programs were two areas of marked improvement of this year’s survey participants,” said Carolynn Johnson, DiversityInc’s CEO.

The recognition from DiversityInc is among several notable awards for Moffitt. The cancer center has consistently been designated a Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality by the Human Rights Campaign and named one of the Top 10 Nonprofit Companies for Executive Women. Moffitt was also recognized by the American Hospital Association as an Equity of Care Honoree and is a 2021 Tampa Bay Business Journal Business of Pride Honoree. Moffitt received the National Organization on Disability Leading Disability Employer Seal. Moffitt is among the top Best Hospitals for Cancer based on U.S. News & World Report.
