Dr. Pidala’s research includes studying the pathogenic mechanisms of acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and chronic GVHD. His work has focused on biomarkers for steroid responsiveness in the treatment of acute GVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The goal of the lab is to define biomarkers for glucocorticoid responsiveness in the primary therapy of acute GVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation. Biologic insights into steroid response and refractoriness may allow improved prognostic information, guide therapy, and inform therapies directed at addressing specific mechanisms of glucocorticoid refractoriness.
