Breast cancer patients at Moffitt's McKinley Outpatient Center were greeted by members of the Tampa Bay Newcomers stitchery club last week. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the group donated 100 handmade, heart-shaped support pillows to patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.
For Newcomer Eileen Silverwood, it was an effort especially close to her heart. She not only handed out pillows she sewed herself but she’s also a Moffitt patient who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

“There is a lot of hope. Don’t feel like you’ve gotten a death diagnosis or something because it’s really not,” she told WTSP-TV. “There are so many survivors.”
The Newcomers group also knitted hats for patients who experience hair loss during their treatment.
