Carl was diagnosed with melanoma six years ago. After surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, he was ready for his final exam. During that exam, he learned the cancer had spread to his neck and his oncologist Dr. Weber enrolled him in a clinical trial. Carl recognized this was an option that could save his life. He knew he would receive expert care at Moffitt.
Carl has had great success with the clinical trial. His tumors have shrunk and he is fortunate not to have any side effects. He is able to continue his job as a roofing contractor and is enjoying his three grandchildren.
“I got a second chance at life,” Carl says. “For me, this [anti-PD-1 Inhibitor Keytruda (pembrolizumab)] was a miracle drug. And it’s going to save a lot of people in the same boat. I’m glad I played a small role in getting it approved.”
