Actress Shannen Doherty of television’s "90210" and "Charmed" has been documenting her battle against breast cancer on Instagram.
Doherty has been receiving radiation therapy five days a week for what she says “seems like forever.”
In addition to sharing that she has nicknamed the radiation machine "Maggie," Doherty has been sharing videos of herself exercising in the way of dancing after her radiation treatments. "You can see how tired I am here but I’m still moving!!," she writes with one of her videos.
Ron Jennings, a physical therapist at Moffitt Cancer Center, spoke with SELF and agreed that exercise is key for cancer patients.
"To fight cancer, you have to keep moving and stay strong," he told SELF.
Although as Doherty admits, exercising can be difficult when you’re exhausted from undergoing treatment, it can be very beneficial.
"Regular exercise does produce better outcomes – we see it and teach it every day," Jennings says. "Patients that exercise before, during and after treatment have less side effects, recover faster and function more independently."
