Overview

Cancer Types Treated: Multiple Myeloma-Plasma Cell Tumor , Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) , Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma , Hodgkin Lymphoma , Leukemia , MDS

Dr. Silvia Bunting is an Associate Member in the Moffitt Cancer Center Department of Hematopathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Bunting serves as the Director of Flow Cytometry. Dr. Bunting earned her medical degree from Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, Guangzhou, China. She completed a Pathology Residency in the Department of Pathology, University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Bunting completed a Surgical/Cytopathology Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals of Cleveland, in Ohio, and a Hematopathology Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation Ohio. After completing her fellowships, Dr. Bunting was a Clinical Associate in the Department of Clinical Pathology at Cleveland Clinic; then Associate Pathologist/Hematopathologist at Summit Health Pathology Associates and most recently a Hematopathologist in the Department of Pathology, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Bunting’s clinical interests include optimizing the role of flow cytometry as an ancillary diagnostic tool in hematologic neoplasms such as leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome, and diagnosis of hematologic neoplasms in adolescents and young adults. Her research interest includes using state-of-the-art flow cytometry technology to identify functional targets and molecular mechanisms of hematologic malignancies.
