Couple doing low-impact exercising

Exercise can help prepare you for a surgical procedure and provide additional benefits during your post-operative recovery. These benefits include reduced hospital length of stay, improved functioning upon return home, reduced need for placement in a rehabilitation facility prior to returning home, and reduced chance of post-op complications.

Preparing for surgery with exercise can include a pre-planned general routine from your provider or may include a more individualized program developed with a physical therapist.

The early start of an exercise program is best but benefits to the body begin in just a few days and will help prepare you for the journey ahead.
