TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt is No. 8 on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Cancer rankings released today. The ranking, up from No. 9 last year, solidifies Moffitt as the best cancer hospital in Florida and top-ranked in the Southeast. Moffitt has been included in the annual Best Hospitals list since 1999. It is designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions.

“Moffitt is proud to once again be named one of the top 10 cancer hospitals in the nation. Our ranking reflects the dedication of our talented clinicians, researchers and support staff to provide exceptional cancer care and improved patient outcomes. It also is an honor we share with our patients and their loved ones, who inspire us each day with their courage,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt.

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Criteria such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other measures largely determine the rankings in most specialties.

“For nearly 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to health care consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available, we give patients and their physicians information to support their search for the best care across a range of specialties.”

U.S. News evaluates more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In 2018, 158 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty.

Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
