Moffitt Cancer Center Teams up with Swim Across America to Host Sixth Annual Charity Swim

WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, and Swim Across America (SAA) – Tampa Bay, the local chapter of a national nonprofit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events.

WHAT: Swim Across America – Tampa Bay, the sixth annual open-water fundraising swim benefitting Moffitt Cancer Center

The annual open water fundraising swim in Clearwater has raised more than $798,000 to fund Moffitt’s Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program at Moffitt. The event will include Olympians, including Honorary Chair Brooke Bennett. Swimmers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate as fundraisers in the one mile, half mile, or 2.4 mile course. Participants may swim as individuals or as part of a team in honor of friends and loved ones who have fought, or are fighting, a battle with cancer. 

The pledges collected by the swimmers, corporate sponsors, and online donations will continue to benefit metastatic melanoma research led by Dr. Shari Pilon-Thomas, Immunology associate member, and Dr. Amod Sarnaik, Cutaneous Oncology associate member, as well as the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program, led by Dr. Damon Reed, Sarcoma Department associate member.
