May 09, 2017

TAMPA, Fla. (May 9, 2017) – The Rev. Arthur T. Jones Sr. is fondly remembered as a caring, compassionate and dedicated pastor, educator and family man.  May 4, 2017, marks the fourth anniversary of his passing, and as a way to honor him, Dr. Leven “Chuck” and Shonda Wilson and the entire Jones family have spearheaded a generous gift to Moffitt Cancer Center, the hospital that cared for Jones as he battled multiple myeloma.

“We want to honor the memory of our dad, a man who dedicated his life to God and who was a great leader and visionary for our community,” said Shonda Wilson.

“With this gift, we hope that his name and legacy will continue to offer hope and inspiration. The initiatives that spring forth from this gift could also spark further philanthropy and support for cancer patients and their families,” said Dr. Chuck Wilson.

This gift will support the overall efforts of Moffitt Diversity, which include:

  • George Edgecomb Society
  • Diversity programs and services
  • Disparities lectures
  • Multiple myeloma research and education
  • Overall cancer prevention and education
  • K-12 health care and research career development programs focused on minorities

“We are grateful to Dr. Wilson for designing this concept, and to the generosity and vision of the Wilson and Jones families to use their gift and initiatives to battle cancer, support research and provide opportunities in health careers,” said B. Lee Green, Ph.D., vice president of Diversity, Public Relations and Strategic Communications.  “We feel very fortunate to accept this gift and continue to honor the name and legacy of the Rev. Arthur T. Jones.”
