Moffitt Cancer Center to highlight patient and caregiver stories at the Annual Association of Oncology Social Work Conference

April 25, 2016

TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center patients, survivors and caregivers will share their personal true stories during a Seek and Speak Your Story event on Tuesday, May 3 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina.

Six performers, who have completed the Seek and Speak Your Story workshop, will share their seven minute stories with family, friends, the community and a national social work audience.

"As a cancer survivor, I have come to understand the amazing healing power of sharing stories,” says Robin Gordon, Peer visitor with Moffitt’s Patient and Family Advisory Program. “Sharing your story is like giving someone a gift."

Several Seek and Speak Your Story workshops are offered throughout the year and caregivers, patients and survivors are invited to attend and craft their individual stories.

"Seek and Speak Your Story has helped me in my journey of discovery,” says cancer survivor Megan Wing. “Exploring my life and piecing together a unique story and sharing it with a group of my peers has been a wonderful experience.”

The Seek and Speak Your Story event begins at 6 p.m. at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, 700 S. Florida Ave. It is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is not required.
