WHAT: The Moffitt Healthy KIDZ Program will host 30 Hillsborough County Science Teachers grades 6-12, ten county administrators, and representatives from MOSI, giving the educators an opportunity to see firsthand inside Moffitt’s world-class center.
The event, Hug a Science Teacher, will begin with opening remarks from Dr. B. Lee Green, Ph.D., vice president of diversity and community relations at Moffitt, and will include yoga demonstrations, a tour of Moffitt labs, an interactive MOSI display and discussion about healthy lifestyle in education.
In addition, Dr. Nagi Kumar will speak to the group about Moffitt’s current partnership with the Florida Commissioner of Agriculture, Adam Putnam, and how the collaboration is aimed at fighting the growing concerns with Florida’s food deserts and how limited access to a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables can impact a young person’s risk of developing cancer.
Through this partnership, Moffitt plans to expose and develop future STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers to students.
