TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center has announced the hire of Matt Kupec as its Executive Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer.
A veteran fundraiser, Kupec will establish and execute the strategic vision for the role of philanthropy at Moffitt, working closely with executive leadership to identify and define the institution's fundraising priorities.
“Matt brings with him incredible talent and passion that will challenge our institution to reach new heights for advancement and fundraising,” said Dr. Alan List, president & CEO of Moffitt Cancer Center. “We are pleased to welcome Matt to our Moffitt family and have him lead the charge with our philanthropic efforts,” he added.
Kupec joins the Moffitt team with extensive experience in advancement and philanthropy, most recently as the Vice President of Development and Marketing for HelpMeSee, an international not-for-profit corporation with a global mandate to eliminate cataract blindness. Prior to that role, Kupec was the Founder and CEO for Text2Give, Inc., a company that uses mobile technology to help charities raise funds.
Kupec spent 20 years at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he successfully directed the $2.38 billion Carolina First Campaign. At the time of completion, it was the fifth most successful university campaign in U.S. history. UNC raised $5 billion under his 20 years of leadership. Kupec resigned from UNC in 2012 and reimbursed the university when questions arose about discrepancies with travel expenses.
“I am excited to be joining such a dynamic team at Moffitt,” said Kupec. “There is great potential to make a significant impact in raising funds for the cancer center and I am thankful that Moffitt has given me this opportunity to lead their fundraising efforts.”
Kupec received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Kupec’s first day at the Cancer Center will be Dec. 19.
