This is the seventh year the magazine has included Moffitt on its annual list
TAMPA, Fla. – Each day, mother Venessa Rivera-Colon balances the task of raising two daughters while working full time at Moffitt Cancer Center. Rivera-Colon says the flexibility Moffitt offers her allows her to be an active mom in her daughters’ lives and also gives her the desire to work hard and advance her career as a professional.
This is just one example of why Moffitt has been named one of the 2015 Working Mother 100 Best Companies. This is the seventh year that Working Mother magazine has included Moffitt on its list. Moffitt was selected for outstanding leadership in establishing policies, programs and corporate culture that support working moms, including childcare, flexible work arrangements, paid parental leave and the advancement of women.
Moffitt has selected Rivera-Colon as its Working Mother of the Year.
“I am very honored to receive the Working Mother of the Year Award,” Rivera-Colon explains. “My family and community are my driving force in life, and I am fortunate Moffitt offers such a great work-life balance.”
Moffitt offers working mothers several opportunities, including education assistance, flexible work schedules, and backup child and elder care to help them grow in their careers while balancing family life. Parental leave offers new moms an additional four weeks of paid leave, as well as one week of paid leave for new dads and job protection for mothers beyond the 12 weeks provided by the Family and Medical Leave Act, paying 100 percent of their salary.
Subha Barry, vice president and general manager of Working Mother Media, says, “As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies, we are keen to recognize leaders who have built initiatives that truly support all employees. They are the vanguard of successful companies, with policies that matter to American families.”
In honor of the 100 Best Companies, Working Mother has declared Tuesday, Oct. 20 as National Flex Day to increase awareness for the importance of workplace flexibility.
