Moffitt Cancer Center Makes United Way Suncoast 100 Most Generous Workplaces List for the Second Year in a Row

TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center has been recognized on United Way Suncoast’s 100 Most Generous Workplaces list for the second year in a row, coming in at No. 32. Moffitt was chosen out of approximately 800 workplaces that are partners of United Way Suncoast, which includes DeSoto, Hillsborough, Pasco and Sarasota counties. The ranking is based on this past year’s workplace campaign contributions and the culture of care demonstrated at Moffitt.

By partnering with United Way Suncoast, Moffitt has been able to help the youth and families in the community. Through United Way’s five year strategic plan to “break the generational cycle of poverty,” Moffitt has contributed to helping enhance the reading skills of children, helped teens graduate from high school, assist in workforce training for adults to secure family-sustaining employment, and supported funding for health, food and shelter services.

“The nature of corporate philanthropy is changing,” said Suzanne McCormick, United Way Suncoast’s CEO. “Workplaces don’t just want to provide financial support, they want to be part of the solution and connect their workforce with the issues that are important to them. Employee volunteerism and engagement are two growing priorities for the organizations we partner with.”

Moffitt’s team members strive to create a culture of caring that includes supporting a company-wide annual workplace campaign enabling employees to donate through simple payroll deductions. These workplace campaigns require an investment of time and resources by the leadership of these organizations to plan and organize information sessions and special-themed events – all done in the spirit of working together to make a difference. Over the past four years, Moffitt has raised over $400,000 through the workplace campaign.
