Moffitt Cancer Center Hosts Success Youth Luncheon for Student Athletes

WHO:          Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in                      Florida, will host a Success Youth Luncheon sponsored by Moffitt Healthy KIDZ and 4 Real Sports Academy. 

WHAT:         The Success Youth Luncheon will gather 50-70 middle and high school athletes who will participate in a roundtable                      discussion on future career options beyond sports.

                   The professionals attending include: 

  • The Honorable Mary S. Scriven was appointed to serve as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Middle District of Florida in 2008. She also has 10 years of experience as a magistrate judge. Prior to her judicial career, Scriven was a shareholder with Carlton, Fields, Ward, Emmanuel, Smith & Cutler.
  • Lex Smith, senior vice president of SunTrust Mortgage, offers comprehensive wealth management experience involving specialists in investments, financial planning, credit and estate strategies. He has earned the professional certification of Certified Financial Planner.
  • Former NFL player Davin Joseph was selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent seven seasons before he landed with the St. Louis Rams. He started the Davin Joseph Events for Cause Foundation to enhance youth opportunities by strengthening athletic and performing arts programs in public schools, nonprofits and clubs in Florida.
  • State Rep. Edwin Narain, D-Tampa, works with organizations committed to helping children and the working poor. He is a member of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and Hillsborough County Headstart Policy Council Board, and has previously served on the Hillsborough County Community Action Board. Narain works for AT&T.

Students will be paired with a professional of a career that sparks their interest. Parents are invited as well and will hear presentations throughout the day. This event does require an RSVP and is not open to the public.
