Moffitt Cancer Center Hosts 9th Annual Business of Biotech Conference

April 13, 2015

WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida.

WHAT: Biotech startups working to make advances in cancer treatment and patient care will be spotlighted at Moffitt Cancer Center’s ninth annual Business of Biotech Conference. The event, which brings together biomedical companies, startups, research organizations, entrepreneurs and investors, offers networking, collaboration and partnership opportunities.

This year’s keynote address will feature Henri Termeer, former CEO, chairman and president of Genzyme. Termeer built Genzyme, a pioneer in developing treatments for rare diseases, to the world’s third largest biotech company before selling it in 2010. Following an interview-style format, Sam Donaldson, former ABC News correspondent and Moffitt Board of Advisors member, will lead Termeer through a series of questions about his entrepreneurial ventures in the biotech field and how he sees the industry growing in the Tampa Bay region.

In addition to the keynote address, the conference will include breakout sessions on fundraising trends, building strategic pharma-academia partnerships and healthcare startups for the tech savvy.

There will also be a “fast pitch” session for startups. Similar to the format of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” entrepreneurs will be given 90 seconds to get a group of panelists excited about their companies. This opportunity allows companies to receive immediate feedback about their pitches.

WHEN: Friday, April 17, 7:45 a.m. – 4 p.m.

WHERE: Moffitt Cancer Center, Vincent A. Stabile Research Building, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33612

CONTACT: Business of Biotech is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To register, visit http://bit.ly/MoffittBOB2015.
