TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Center has received the Diversity Award by Premier Inc. for supporting supply chain diversity as part of its social responsibility initiatives.
It was announced that Moffitt is the only Premier member to receive the Diversity Award this year during Premier’s annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in National Harbor, Md., held June 24. The award honors health systems that have established active programs to evaluate and support minority-, women- and veteran-owned enterprises, as well as small businesses, available through the Premier contract portfolio.
“Moffitt's commitment to supplier diversity is not just because of social responsibility,” says Jack Kolosky, Moffitt’s Chief Operating Officer. “We think it is good business practice to enhance relationships with diverse businesses. They help us build an outstanding group of suppliers who benefit our patients, providers, employees and researchers.
Members of Premier, a leading healthcare improvement company, apply for the Diversity Award and are measured on engagement in diversity initiatives through community involvement, diversity business outreach initiatives, benchmarking and best practices sharing.
“This recognition further solidifies our center-wide commitment to increasing the participation and inclusion of diverse suppliers to compete in Moffitt's purchasing, proposal and/or bid opportunities,” says Desiree Hanson, Moffitt’s supplier diversity manager.
Premier President of Supply Chain Services Durral R. Gilbert praised Moffitt’s efforts.
“Moffitt Cancer Center is at the forefront of innovative diversity programs that benefit the communities, businesses and a people they serve,” says Gilbert. “We welcome collaboration with diverse suppliers and encourage health systems to use their highly-valued products and services.”
