Moffitt Cancer Center Hosts Free Lunch Program on Breast Cancer

TAMPA, Fla. Moffitt Cancer Center will offer the seventh event in a series of free cancer education lunch programs called “De Moffitt a Puerto Rico: Charlas sobre cáncer” at 11:30 a.m. Nov 14.  This program, presented in Spanish, will focus on the latest advances in early detection and treatments for breast cancer.  The event will be held at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, 1309 Ashford Ave., San Juan, Puerto Rico.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among American women, with more than 232,000 new cases expected this year.  Approximately 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer throughout the course of their lifetime.

At this free event, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk one-on-one with a top expert in the field of breast cancer research and treatment from Moffitt – the only Florida-based Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute.

Christine Laronga, M.D., F.A.C.S., a surgical oncologist with Moffitt’s Center for Women’s Oncology, will discuss the latest on new treatments, early detection methods and screenings for breast cancer.  The Puerto Rico Advisory Council for Moffitt Cancer Centeris hosting the program.
