PNC Bank Steps Up As New Title Sponsor of Miles for Moffitt

TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2012) PNC Bank has been named the new title sponsor of the annual Miles for Moffitt race. It’s an opportunity for Moffitt Cancer Center and PNC, poised to become the nation’s fifth-largest bank in number of branches, to partner in the fight against cancer.

PNC Bank Miles for Moffitt, slated for May 12 at the USF Sun Dome, is anticipating 6,000 participants this year. The race — which includes a 50-mile ultra, five-mile, 5K, one-mile and Kids Dash race — has raised more than $800,000 since 2006.

PNC Bank is committed to strengthening and enriching the lives of the neighbors in the communities it serves, said Joe Meterchick, PNC Bank regional president of Florida’s Central West Market. “There is a correlation between the health of individuals and the economic health of a community,” Meterchick said. “We consider Moffitt and the world-class scientific research and patient care taking place on its campus to be a community asset well worth our commitment.

“Moffitt’s value comes not only from its contribution to improving the lives of Tampa Bay residents, but also the lives of individuals and families throughout Florida. Through our support, we seek to impact positively their future.”

Karen Dalton, founder of Miles for Moffitt, said major support from an organization new to our community such as PNC Bank “speaks volumes about the bank’s long-term commitment to this region, including its desire to reinforce Moffitt’s mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.”

With the support of PNC Bank and other sponsors, the 2012 PNC Bank Miles for Moffitt could be a banner year, Dalton said. “We expect 2012 will take us to the million-dollar milestone in combined funds raised for Moffitt cancer research since the race began.”

Sponsors allow 100 percent of race entry fees to support Moffitt’s cancer research programs. Other sponsors include the Tampa Bay Rays as Presenting Sponsor, Gerdau as Survivor Celebration Sponsor, University of South Florida, Amgen Breakaway From Cancer, The Berkman Family Foundation, Greenberg Traurig and Embassy Suites. Media sponsors include 10 News, Tampa Bay Times, Mix 100.7 and US 103.5.
