Moffitt Cancer Center Hosts Sixth-Annual Business of Biotech Conference

TAMPA, Fla. – Moffitt Cancer Centerwill host its sixth-annual Business of Biotech conference from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Vincent A. Stabile Research Building, 12902 Magnolia Drive. This year’s theme is “Turning Vision into Reality.”

The keynote speaker is Risa Stack, Ph.D., with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a venture capital partnership headquartered in the San Francisco Bay area with a large capital base for investment.  Since 1972, the company has invested in more than 575 technology companies, which have accrued market valuations exceeding $500 billion and employ more than 400,000.

Stack has 15 years of experience investing in personalized medicine, therapeutics and platform technologies. Her investment career spans incubations to public companies. Most recently, she has focused on starting companies, often taking operational roles.

Since joining KPCB in 2003, Stack has worked to build and support KPCB’s personalized medicine portfolio. She has been the founding chief executive officer and a board member of several personalized medicine companies including Nodality and CardioDx.  Stack also is involved in developing public policy in molecular diagnostics and personalized medicine.

The conference focuses on opportunities for businesses and investors to network and collaborate in life sciences, biotechnology, medical devices, angel investing, venture capital, finance and intellectual property. In addition, the Tampa Bay Partnership will be releasing a biotech heat map at the conference showing all biotech companies and research institutions.

Breakout sessions include:

  • Issues facing medical device companies
  • Early-stage biomedical company fundraising
  • Personalized medicine in oncology
  • The future of biotech in Tampa Bay
