WHO: Moffitt Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center based in Florida, along with the American Cancer Society and Univision Tampa Bay are hosting a free program for the Hispanic community.
WHAT: The Yo me cuido breast cancer program will be presented in Spanish. Speakers include:
- Registered nurse Carla Garcia discussing signs and symptoms of breast self awareness
- Registered dietitian Fabiola Figueroa discussing nutrition and cancer risk reduction
- A breast cancer patient discussing survivorship
- A community physician discussing mammography recommendations
The emcee is news anchor Natalie Perez from Noticias Univision Florida Central. Free lunch will be provided.
This talk is part of the Yo me cuido campaign. Yo me cuido, “I take care of myself,” is a program started by the Moffitt Program for Outreach Wellness Education & Resources (M-POWER) through funding from the American Cancer Society and The Walmart Foundation to focus on reducing the rate of breast cancer diagnosis among Latinas in the Tampa Bay area. With an emphasis on prevention and early detection, the program provides workshops to the local community.
