Tampa, FL —On May 9, Susie Foster decided to celebrate her birthday with hundreds of other walkers and runners at the 2009 Florida Bank Miles for Moffitt. She didn’t let a meningioma — an often benign brain tumor — diagnosed in 2002 stop her. She got help preparing for race day with a Miles for Moffitt training workshop.
Foster enjoyed the experience so much that she’s doing it again this year, and she’s encouraging everyone to participate.
Are you ready to lace up your running shoes and support research at Moffitt Cancer Center? This year’s Florida Bank Miles for Moffitt — featuring a 5-mile, 5K, 1-mile and kids dash races — is May 15. Join us on Saturday mornings for an eight-week training and workout clinic to make your miles count. Don’t miss your chance to contribute to the $355,000 raised for research in the past five years.
The Saturday morning clinics will promote wellness and prepare you for the big race day. Each session will include a 20-minute training discussion and a 45-minute workout.
Lynn Gray, a Road Runners Club of America-certified running coach, will lead strengthening and flexibility exercises, along with training on fitness walking and running. She will discuss form and technique, benefits of aerobic movement, the right shoe, avoiding injuries, nutrition and the importance of recovery.
“Lynn has programs for everyone, including My First 5K. You can go in there and be someone who’s never run to the mailbox before, and she will start you out walking. She’s amazing,” Foster said.
