Rediscover Good Health and Fun in the Kitchen with Moffitt Cancer Center and Publix Apron’s Cooking School

July 07, 2010

TAMPA, Fla. Tired of trying to figure out what to fix for dinner? Want a healthy dish without sacrificing flavor? Well, Moffitt Cancer Center and Publix Apron's Cooking School have all the ingredients you need to get cooking. They’re offering a series of cooking classes that are fun and hands-on beginning Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m. at the Publix in Citrus Park.

“Publix has the chefs who know how to make food flavorful and attractive,” said Kathy Allen, Moffitt’s director of Nutrition Therapy. “They take food that’s nutrient-dense and prepare it in a way people want to eat it.”

And who says you can’t have the best of both worlds – food that tastes good and is also good for you? Allen and Publix Apron’s Cooking School resident chef Rich Norris are partnering to help you lead a simpler, healthier life. You’ll learn fun facts about nutrition and get to try tasty new recipes. At the Aug. 4 class, you’ll whip up the following meal:

  • Watermelon salad with yogurt and balsamic drizzle
  • Gazpacho
  • Pan-seared, Dijon-herbed salmon
  • Blackberry parfait with angel food cake and shaved bittersweet chocolate

“I think people believe cooking has to be difficult and complicated, when it can be simple,” said Allen. “It’s never been easier to cook at home.”

Participants are required to register for each $35 class.
