Moffitt Cancer Center and USF Health Recognize

Tampa, FL This year, approximately 40,000 Americans will be diagnosed with a form of head and neck cancer that may affect ability to communicate, eat, drink and swallow. Moffitt Cancer Centerand USF Health want to educate the community during National Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week April 12-18. Moffitt will host events highlighting head and neck cancers, screening, and treatment advancements.

The awareness week is sponsored by the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance and takes place each year to help educate the public on the potential life-threatening forms of head and neck cancers. Moffitt, the University of South Florida and the Head and Neck Oncology Program are teaming to bring awareness to Head & Neck Cancer.

Lunch and Learn Program – April 12, 13 and 16

The Head and Neck Oncology Program is teaming up to host free Lunch and Learn programs that will explain the warning signs of head and neck cancers, the screening process, and the services available at Moffitt. Community members, patients, families and staff are welcome to attend.

Mobile Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week Educational Table with SmartBoard Presentation – April 12-16

Moffitt staff will host a traveling table to education patients, families and visitors. The table will have a presentation on oral, head and neck cancers and will provide information on the Head and Neck Program and upcoming events.

Hillsborough County “Community Talks”… Lazy Days RV Center – April 15

Moffitt and USF Health will host a discussion from noon to 1 p.m. in the Lazy Days’ R.V. Center, 6130 Lazy Days Blvd. McCaffrey will discuss the symptoms of head and neck cancer, the effects of tobacco on the head and neck, tips on prevention, and information on screenings. 

Expert Panel Presentation: Head and Neck Cancer and HPV– April 21

USF Health experts from Moffitt’s Head and Neck Oncology Program will discuss “Head and Neck Cancers and Human Papillomavirus” on April 21st from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Vincent A. Stabile Research Building, 12902 Magnolia Drive.

Dr. Andy Trotti, director of Radiation Oncology Clinical Research, will provide a short presentation on HPV and Head & Neck Cancer followed by a question-and-answer session with Trotti, McCaffrey, Dr. Ronald C. DeConti, Medical Oncology; and  Dr. Jason Savell, Anatomic Pathology.

Please join the Head and Neck Oncology Program for a reception immediately following the presentation. Educational tables will be on display with information on patient services including Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Lymphedema Therapy, Nutrition, Smoking Cessation and other ancillary services.
