St. Petersburg, FL—On behalf of the Florida Bank Miles for Moffitt, noted college basketball analyst Dick Vitale will throw the ceremonial first pitch Thursday at Tropicana Field when the Tampa Bay Rays host the Chicago White Sox at 7:08 p.m.
The veteran ESPN sports announcer is throwing the pitch to help promote the Florida Bank Miles for Moffitt event, a 5-mile, 5K and 1-mile walk/run being held May 9 at the University of South Florida Sun Dome. All proceeds from the event will fund cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center.
The Rays are the presenting sponsor of the Moffitt race and designated the April 16 game at Tropicana Field as Florida Bank Miles for MoffittAppreciation Night.
Vitale, a passionate and colorful sports commentator, is known for his support of cancer research, especially his work with The V Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for cancer.
