Celebrating 10th Anniversary of Key to the Cure Charity Shopping Weekend
Tampa, FL – To help raise money and awareness for women’s cancers,Saks Fifth Avenue Tampa and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) will partner with Moffitt Cancer Centerand host the 2008 Key to the Cure, a charity shopping weekend taking place Oct. 16 through 19. A percentage of the weekend’s sales will benefit Moffitt through EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
Nationwide, Saks stores, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH stores and saks.com will donate 2 percent of sales up to $500,000 to local and national women’s cancer charities.
To launch this year’s event, Saks Fifth Avenue Tampawill host a Key to the Cure kickoff celebration Oct. 15. This event will celebrate the lives of 10 Tampa Bay area women who battled cancer and won. Each survivor’s story will be told throughout the store that evening. The women being honored are:
- Joyce Austin – surviving breast cancer
- Courtney Courtney – surviving melanoma
- Terri Doyle – surviving invasive ductal carcinoma and breast cancer
- Beth Gardner – surviving ductal carcinoma
- Georgeann Nikolich Matzkin – surviving breast cancer
- Lydia Muar – surviving ductal carcinoma in situ
- Linda Parr – surviving breast cancer
- Wendy Pepe – surviving adenocarcinoma cervical cancer
- Margaret Smith – surviving melanoma and spindle cell sarcoma
- Darla Young – surviving Hodgkin lymphoma
The evening will also feature food from restaurants around the Tampa Bay area, live entertainment and shopping. Tickets are $75 per person and $250 for patrons. During the shopping weekend, many events will take place.

- Oct. 17: Evening Collection Event. Find the perfect dress for every occasion
- Oct. 18: Denim Doctor is on Call. Find the perfect fit and Cosmetics Wellness Event with a Moffitt representative to answer questions
Saks will also offer a limited-edition Key to the Cure T-shirt designed by Karl Lagerfeld, available beginning October 1 and retailing for $40 in Saks stores, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH storesand at saks.com. The T-shirt features two original illustrations by Karl Lagerfeld. Over $35 from the sale of every T-shirt will benefit EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund.
Academy Award®-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is the 2008 Ambassador for EIF’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund and Saks Fifth Avenue’s Key to the Cure. In support of this program, Paltrow will appear in a national public service announcement (PSA) wearing the Karl Lagerfeld limited-edition T-shirt. The Key to the Cure PSA will appear in major fashion and lifestyle magazines in September and October.
For the sixth consecutive year, Mercedes-Benz USA is proud to partner with the EIF Women’s Cancer Research Fund and Saks Fifth Avenue in Key to the Cure. Mercedes-Benz USA expects to raise $1 million this year through sales of 1,000 special edition S550 Sedans, bringing the total amount raised by MBUSA for women’s cancer research to more $6 million.
