Moffitt Cancer Center and NFL’s Lee Roy Selmon Spread Health Message that Knowledge Is Power (KIP)

Tampa, FL- Moffitt Cancer Center is partnering with NFL Hall of Famer and community leader Lee Roy Selmon to promote healthy families and communities. The initiative, which is supported by the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, will present Knowledge Is Power (KIP) on Saturday, July 19, from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Tampa Public Library, 2312 W. Union. The event is free and open to the public. The community event promotes healthy lifestyles by providing cancer awareness education and wellness tips. This is a summer event for the entire family. There will be free health screenings, including checkups for vision, blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. Children can participate in Reach Out and Read, Safety Kids programs, face painting and prizes.

Participants can meet Selmon from 11a.m. to 12 p.m. Moffitt speakers include B. Lee Green, Ph.D., vice president of the Office of Institutional Diversity on health disparities; Christine Gage, ARNP on cervical cancer; Dr. John Kiluk on breast cancer; LaShonda Coulbertson, MPH on freedom from smoking; and Brian Rivers, Ph.D., on prostate health.

“BK” Jackson, a teenage saxophonist, will perform. Food will be provided by Sweetbay Supermarkets. If participants sign up for a library card they will be eligible to enter a drawing for a pair of Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets donated by Will Allen, No. 26.
