Sickles High School Student and Cancer Survivor Pays it Forward to Moffitt with Fundraising Concert

May 01, 2007

Tampa, FL- Sickles High School will hold a fundraising concert on Friday, May 4th at 7 p.m. in the auditorium, 7950 Gunn Highway, Tampa.. Joe Ginem, a 16 year old concertmaster at Sickles, is a cancer survivor and Moffitt patient. Joe was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right arm last year. Previously, Joe had been recognized as a gifted young violinist with hopes for a promising future in music, but the diagnosis of osteosarcoma in his right arm delayed those plans.

Joe and his mother, Peggy, organized the concert as a way to thank the Cancer Center that saved Joe's arm and, ultimately, his life. Tickets are $5 each, $3 of which will go directly to sarcoma research at Moffitt. Proceeds from a raffle and bake sale will support cancer care initiatives at Moffitt.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the box office the night of the event.
