TAMPA, Fla.– H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute has been named by Hospitals & Health Networks in partnership with the American Hospital Association, Accenture, McKesson Healthcare and CHIME as one of "100 most wired hospitals and health systems" in America. This is the first year Moffitt has appeared on the list.

“Technology is such a big part of the way we do business here at Moffitt,” says Dr. William Dalton, CEO and Center Director. “Our ability to provide cutting edge, quality care is enhanced by information technology, but our level of technology would not be possible without the people who make it happen and provide support. This is a fitting recognition of all of their hard work.”

The “Most Wired Survey” identifies 100 hospitals and health systems that have adopted information technology to streamline business and clinical practices, improve patient outcomes and decrease the occurrence of medical errors. The survey assesses a hospitals adoption and use of technology in five key areas: safety and quality, customer service, business processes, workforce and public health and safety.

“This is a great milestone for Moffitt and the folks who help make it what it is,” says Edward Martinez, Vice-President of Information Technology, Chief Information Officer.

“With Dr. Dalton’s leadership, we have been blessed with a clear vision and direction;

one that has allowed us to make full use of Information Technologies throughout the center. I am also grateful to our faculty, staff and management whom are all equally responsible for our achievements, as it is they who incorporate these technologies into their daily efforts and maximize their use. This recognition is truly icing on the cake.”

In 2001, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute earned NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center status in recognition of its excellence in research and contributions to clinical trials, prevention and cancer control. Additionally, Moffitt is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a prestigious alliance of the country's leading cancer centers, and is listed in the U.S. News & World Report as one of the top cancer hospitals in America. Moffitt’s sole mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
