Tampa, FL – H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute CEO and Center Director William S. Dalton, Ph.D., M.D., has been named to the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Board of Scientific Advisors (BSA) and to the NCI’s Cancer Center Directors Work Group (CCDWG).
The Board is composed of prominent scientists from outside NCI and representatives from the consumer advocacy community, while the Work Group consists of a select number of NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center directors.
The BSA represents the scientific community’s voice in the science NCI conducts and supports, and advises NCI leadership on the progress and future direction of the Institute’s Extramural Research Program. The Board evaluates Institute-awarded grants, cooperative agreements and contracts, and it reviews ideas for new research solicitations to ensure that the concepts are meritorious and consistent with the Institute’s goals. The CCDWG’s main commitment is to eliminate suffering and death due to cancer by 2015.
In 2001, the National Cancer Institute awarded Moffitt the status of a Comprehensive Cancer Center in recognition of its excellence in research and contributions to clinical trials, prevention and cancer control. Additionally, Moffitt is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, a prestigious alliance of the country’s leading cancer centers, and is listed in the U.S. News & World Report as one of the top cancer hospitals in America. Moffitt’s sole mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
