University Mall experiencing revitalization

Moffitt Cancer Center is one of those successful community anchors on the Fowler Avenue corridor, as part of the new Tampa Innovation Alliance, and it's playing a role in helping bring more people to University Mall. A "pop-up" community outreach center just opened at the mall last week and has already welcomed hundreds of visitors.

Moffitt Cancer Center and UnitedHealthcare recently launched a new payment model for treating lung cancer that focuses on quality patient care and outcomes.

Pinellas Commissioner John Morroni returns from cancer fight

The longtime commissioner announced in July that he would undergo treatment at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center for a rare bone marrow disorder called myelodysplastic, or MDS. His treatment included a stem cell transplant.
“We just want to say, ‘We are so incredibly happy to have you back, sir,” Chairman Charlie Justice told Morroni Tuesday before a board meeting.
“Believe me, I am very happy to be back,” Morroni replied.

Commissioner Morroni returns to work after cancer treatment

Morroni spent six days in the hospital undergoing chemo. The doctors put stem cells they had collected back into his body and followed up with another round of chemotherapy. When he was released from the hospital, he had to stay in special patient housing provided by the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

Mother of four fights rare cancer

Now she's trying percutaneous hepatic perfusion or PHP. Jonathan Zager, M.D., a surgical oncologist at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, has done this procedure on about 60 patients.
