Moffitt receives exclusive contract to provide cell production for scientific research

Moffitt Cancer Center has been selected as a Cell Therapies Processing Facility by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Moffitt is one of five institutions that make up the NHLBI’s Production Assistance for Cellular Therapies (PACT) group. This exclusive group includes the only NHLBI-approved facilities to produce cell-based therapies for scientific research.

Moffitt Cancer Center leader to head Marcus Neuroscience Institute in Boca Raton

Dr. Frank D. Vrionis has been named director of the Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the hospital announced this week. Vrionis is currently chief of neurosurgery at the renowned Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and professor of neurosurgery, orthopedics and oncology at the University of South Florida, according to a news release.

Local cancer survivors award university students $10,000 each for research

Natalia Sumi was the second researcher to receive $10,000 from Circle of Hope. The University of South Florida PhD student is working in the area of small cell lung cancer research at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. “A lot of groups raise money for breast cancer,” she said. “There is not as much money for lung cancer. This will help a lot. I’ll be able to do more experiments.”
