Friendship. Perseverance. Courage.
Those three words describe just how Moffitt Cancer Center began. Today, our mission and the courage of our patients continues to drive each one of Moffitt’s 5,000+ team members and more than 20,000 donors as we work together towards the day when cancer is no longer fatal.
We know how important it is to find the cure for cancer – its cruelty has touched all of us in some way. But, we cannot do it alone. Every day, we treat patients who cannot wait for tomorrow’s breakthrough – they need the most leading-edge treatments today. That’s why the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation partners with donors who understand this urgency and share our vision - to revolutionize cancer care and provide the best possible outcomes for our patients by accelerating the transformation of lab-based research into lifesaving treatments delivered directly to our patients’ bedside. Your philanthropy gives us the resources we need to push beyond conventional thinking and develop the immediate treatments our patients need right now.
As the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, Moffitt sees individuals from every state and more than 130 countries. Moffitt is also consistently recognized with U.S. News and World Report’s “best hospital” distinction for cancer care. These accolades recognize Moffitt’s excellence in research and reputation for treating patients and their families with the highest level of care.
Expanding Our Horizons
To meet increasing demands on patient volumes and increase opportunities for cancer treatment, Moffitt recently unveiled plans for an $800 million expansion over the next decade. This ambitious expansion plan will include two new research buildings, a new clinical support building, a new hospital wing and additional outpatient facilities.
Construction for the first phase of the new expansion is expected to begin in 2017 as Moffitt builds a new clinical support building that will house faculty offices and additional research laboratories. Increased space will also make it possible to add more beds and treat more patients within the existing 206-bed facility on Magnolia Drive.
Moffitt plans to fundraise $500 million towards these expansion efforts and hopes to finance the rest with a bond supported by state cigarette taxes. Learn more here.
