Nearly 750 guests attended Moffitt’s 24th annual Magnolia Ball May 20, at the Marriott Waterside in Downtown Tampa. Chaired by Moffitt supporters, Frank and Christina Capitano, the ball raised $4 million for patient care, research and education at the cancer center. This record-setting amount is the most ever raised in a single year.
During the event, guests watched a patient testimonial video from breast cancer survivor and on-air HSN show host Amy Morrison; and listened to personal messages from Moffitt President and CEO Dr. Alan List, Founder H. Lee Moffitt, and Chief Philanthropy Officer Matt Kupec. Special guests Jon Gruden, Super Bowl-winning former head coach and Monday Night Football analyst and Ed Droste, chairman of the Moffitt Foundation Board of Directors, and a member of Moffitt's National Board of Advisors also rallied the crowd during the Tuscan inspired gala. Ending the evening with a bang, Julie Wooley, member of Moffitt's Foundation Board of Directors, and The Hyer Family Foundation announced significant gifts, and live entertainment provided by Rob Thomas followed.
Since its inception, the Magnolia Ball has raised $39 million. These funds continue to empower our researchers and clinicians in our mission to prevent and cure this dreaded disease.
