'I’m still enjoying life'
“Everything just kind of stopped.”
That’s how Rebecca describes the moment she learned she had breast cancer.
Just 33 years old, Rebecca was stunned to suddenly find herself in the fight of her life. She was overwhelmed.
Rebecca’s mom, however, knew just where to go. “At that point, we buckled down,” her mom says. “We knew we wanted to go to Moffitt.”
Thanks to the generous support of friends like you, Moffitt offers Florida neighbors like Rebecca their best hope for beating cancer. When she came here for treatment, she found a team prepared to fight for her life, offering her comfort and providing her with the highest level of comprehensive, personalized care.
“Thirty-three is really young for somebody to be diagnosed with breast cancer,” says Dr. M. Catherine Lee, Rebecca’s oncologist at Moffitt. “In Rebecca’s case, we were able to offer her a lot of different options with regard to surgery as well as chemotherapy.”
Being fully informed and having several options meant a lot to Rebecca. She felt empowered to be able to choose her treatment. “That was a very important part for me,” she says. “For it to be my decision.”
This past October, Rebecca experienced another powerful moment. She learned she was cancer-free!
These days, her life has returned to normal, filled with family, friends, and her beloved Tampa Bay Rays.
“I’m still enjoying life,” she declares with a smile that lights up the room.
Rebecca reflects on her experience. “Everyone who works at Moffitt … I could definitely tell that they cared,” she says. “I hope they know what a difference they made.
“We need the people at Moffitt to keep fighting cancer for us, because cancer is not going to end itself,” she adds. “Moffitt needs to continue doing what they’re doing.”
