Richard’s Run for Life & Father’s Day Walk
The Gonzmart Family Foundation was created by Columbia Restaurant President, Richard Gonzmart, as a way to combine his love for running with his longtime desire to find a cure for cancer. They host two great events each year – Richard’s Run for Life is a 5K race held in the fall, and Richard’s Father’s Day Walk/Jog, is held in the spring on Father’s Day weekend. In total, over $1.1 million has been raised through these events to support sarcoma and prostate research at Moffitt Cancer Center.
The 2018 edition of Richard's Run for Life 5K was held on Friday, Nov. 2. in Ybor City's Centennial Park. Despite the stormy weather during the 17th annual race, this inspiring event still managed to raise more than $150,000 for Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. All proceeds will fund the brachytherapy suite that is currently being built at Moffitt Cancer Center. Brachytherapy treats prostate, cervical, breast and sarcoma cancers. This new suite will effectively double the number of patients that can be treated.
Save the date for the 2019 Richard's Run for Life 5K: this will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019.
It is hard to believe it's been 15 years since I created ‘Richard’s Run for Life’ under the Gonzmart Family Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to raise funds for research at Moffitt Cancer Center. Many of our lives have been touched by those who have had cancer and I have personally lost family members and dear friends to this horrible disease. My passion to find a cure for cancer is huge and I am motivated to help Moffitt beat this terrible disease."
