Interventional Radiology Specialists
Moffitt Cancer Center’s Interventional Radiology Program regularly accepts patients referred by physicians across the country. Our interventional radiology specialists, including board-certified physicians, technologists and other professionals, are led by Cesar Lam, MD. Using the assistance of MRIs, CT scans, X-rays and ultrasounds, these experts perform minimally invasive alternatives to traditional open surgery, often resulting in shorter recovery times and lower complication rates for our patients. Moffitt is a high-volume cancer center, giving our interventional radiology specialists an unparalleled level of experience with a wide range of different malignancies.
What do Moffitt’s interventional radiology specialists do?
Moffitt’s interventional radiology specialists focus on minimally invasive techniques to remove blood clots, feeding tubes, drainage tubes, stents, implanted fusion ports and tunneled venous lines. They are also highly experienced in performing a number of procedures, including:
- Tumor embolization – tiny beads containing chemotherapy drugs or a radioisotope are injected directly into a tumor
- Tumor ablation – tumor cells are removed from the body using extreme heat or extreme cold
- Kyphoplasty – medical cement is injected into a vertebra in the spine that has been fractured due to tumor growth
Moffitt’s Interventional Radiology Program is located at the Muriel Rothman Building of the Magnolia campus and regularly treats patients with many different malignancies, including cancers of the breasts, kidneys, lungs, bones and prostate. Our interventional radiology specialists help to ensure each patient’s treatment plan is tailored to their needs, offering each patient the best chance at a favorable outcome and an improved quality of life.
We focus on more than clinical treatment
At Moffitt, our focus extends far beyond clinical treatment. We also care deeply about our patients’ quality of life. We understand that there are many challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis, which is why we have a full team of supportive care specialists under the same roof as our physicians. These professionals help patients navigate the unique challenges that come with undergoing cancer treatment.
