Moffitt Celebrates Patient Safety Awareness Week With Events

Moffitt Cancer Center will recognize Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 11-17) with weeklong events to give patients and their caregivers the opportunity to interact with healthcare providers and learn more about safety initiatives. 

The nationwide campaign strives to increase awareness about patient safety among healthcare professionals and the public. 

"At Moffitt, we recognize the importance of this message and believe our participation further enhances our commitment and drives our focus to our patient safety culture," said Donna Moran, Manager Quality and Patient Safety Officer.

Patients, caregivers and families are invited to the following Patient Safety Awareness Week events: 

Monday, March 12

  • Patient Safety Fair, interact with our healthcare team and receive educational handouts, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Magnolia campus, Droste Den
  • Meet the Experts: Medication Safety, 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., Magnolia campus, Patient Library 

Tuesday, March 13

  • Meet the Experts: Safety Patient Handling, 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., Magnolia campus, Patient Library
  • Patient Safety Fair, interact with our healthcare team and receive educational handouts, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., Moffitt at International Plaza, MIP Lobby 

Wednesday, March 14

  • Patient Safety Fair, interact with our healthcare team and receive educational handouts, 8 a.m. -4 p.m., Magnolia campus, Main Lobby
  • Meet the Experts: Fall prevention, 10 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Magnolia campus, Patient Library 

Thursday, March 15

  • Meet the Experts: Sepsis and the Cancer Patient, 10 a.m.- 10:30 a.m., Magnolia campus, Patient Library
  • Patient Safety Fair, interact with our healthcare team and receive educational handouts, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., McKinley campus, Main space
  • Meet the Experts: Ask Me 3, 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m., McKinley campus, Main space 

Friday, March 16

  • Patient Safety Fair, interact with our healthcare team and receive educational handouts, 8 a.m.- 3 p.m., Magnolia campus, Droste Den
  • Meet the Experts: Handwashing, 10 a.m.- 10:30 a.m., Magnolia campus, Patient Library 

Here are some other initiatives that Moffitt participates in to support our mission.

  • Moffitt is accredited by the Joint Commission, which has patient-centered safety standards that must continuously be met to maintain accreditation status.
  • Moffitt monitors the quality of care and outcomes through our Quality & Patient Safety Department.
  • Moffitt promotes a culture of safety to our staff by encouraging them to "speak up" if they have any concerns regarding patient safety.
  • Moffitt is the only National Cancer Center (NCI) designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida.
