Meet Marjorie- Beat the Odds
Anyone who meets Marjorie will tell you she is upbeat about life and enjoys spending time with her family. But not long ago, Marjorie faced a difficult journey. Her story began when she had to remove a brain tumor. She woke up from surgery anxious to hear if a brain tumor was malignant. Unfortunately, her news was worse: She had stage 4 lung cancer that spread to her brain and spine.
Signs of Lung Cancer
- A chronic cough
- Dyspnea (shortness of breath)
- Coughing or spitting up blood
Searching for a Treatment
A thousand thoughts began running through her head and then she focused on what appeared most important: her family. She didn’t want to miss any milestones and looked for the best treatment plan at several cancer centers in Orlando and Tampa. Their evaluations were that she had no more than six months to live. Marjorie didn’t settle with that prognosis.
Hope for the Cure
Marjorie came to Moffitt, and her attitude changed.
“They told me not only are we going to prolong your life, we’re going to try and cure you.”
That glimmer of hope kept Marjorie strong as she underwent aggressive surgery and treatment. Moffitt’s physicians utilize robotic lung cancer surgery techniques, one of the most promising developments in lung cancer treatment. Three years later, Marjorie’s diagnosis has improved greatly. She no longer has any tumors on her brain or spine. She says she only has one tiny spot left on her lung.
