Lifes a Dance

Juli discovered she had colon cancer at the age of 55. Her husband and caregiver Mike never left her side. He was there for her, even when the dance steps became hard.

“My husband would wake up every morning and say, ‘Okay, Juli, this is another day. You need to get up and go fight,’” she says

Signs and Symptoms of Colon Cancer

  • Chronic constipation or diarrhea
  • A persistent urge to pass stool
  • An inability to completely empty the bowels

Know Them All

By Her Side

Prior to finding out her diagnosis, Juli entered Dancing with the Charlotte Stars, a dance competition for Charlotte County. Juli was fearful she wouldn’t be able to finish. Her physician encouraged her to stick with it so that she would have a “victory dance.”

Thanks to her hubby Mike’s unwavering support, she won the competition and proudly showed off her trophy. Thanks to Moffitt’s expert care and Mike’s guiding light, she found a way to get through her diagnosis, and braved chemotherapy and surgery.

The Importance of a Colonoscopy

Now Juli is a strong advocate for getting a routine colonoscopy starting at age 50. Because Juli had no symptoms, her cancer may have gone undetected without a colonoscopy.

“It’s such a simple procedure and it could save your life. It saved mine,” says Juli.
