From the Heart
Malcolm has been at Moffitt Cancer Center for over six years as a volunteer and says that, “I love what I do.” He has volunteered over 3,000 hours and was Moffitt’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year. He says that when he gets here he is looking forward to helping people and that inspires him to give from the heart.
His Reason for Giving
Malcolm’s story began by experiencing the loss of his father and several friends to cancer over the years. Once he retired from the cruise industry, he didn’t want to sit around and simply settle into retirement. He felt that Moffitt was his calling.
Each of the 700 volunteers are very special here at Moffitt. Malcolm is one of the first people to greet patients and their family when they come in from surgery. He works as a liaison between the patient and their family in the waiting room.
“Everyone is there to help the patient and the family members. It’s a family affair,” says Malcolm.
At the end of the day, Malcolm feels rewarded and inspired by each patient he has helped that day.
