Study Title

Men at Work: Exploring Work-Related Decisions about Minority Men Diagnosed with Cancer

Summary

Objective

The specific aims of this exploratory study are to: a) To develop/expand a survivor and employer advisory board (Cancer Survivor and Workplace Issues Community Advisory Board, CSWIAB) that will inform the research process and provide input that will strengthen and inform future NIH/ACS proposal submissions. b) Explore work-related decisions and the challenges experienced by men cancer survivors who were working at the time of diagnosis.

Inclusion Criteria

  • Survivors: Inclusion criteria for men cancer survivors are: 1) having been diagnosed with cancer within the past five years; 2) having worked for pay for 10 or more hours per week at time of diagnosis; 3) self-identify as African American, Latino, or European American.
  • Employers: Inclusion criteria for employers are: 1) being a wellness coordinator or benefit specialist 2) having worked on employer-based initiatives to assist employees diagnosed with cancer.

  • Exclusion Criteria

  • Survivors: Exclusion criteria for men cancer survivors are: 1) being a full-time student at the time diagnosis; 2) not working at the time of diagnosis.
  • Employers: Exclusion criteria for employers are: 1) not having worked on any employer-based initiative to assist cancer survivors, 2) having worked only on non-employer based initiatives for survivors.
