Moffitt Cancer Center is a private, not-for-profit institution established by the Florida Legislature with a mission focused entirely on cancer care, research, education and prevention.
Most of our exchange visitors are engaged in hands-on research in the labs, in areas such as molecular oncology, drug discovery, imaging and immunology in the broader field of oncology and cancer biology. These visitors might be visiting scholars who are here for relatively short periods of learning and collaboration, or they may be employed as postdoctoral research scholars, research specialists, or research associates. These activities are meant to lead to scientific exploration and discovery, with the end goal being the publication of such findings in scientific journals.
We also have visiting scholars who attend grand rounds and other clinical lectures/seminars, and who shadow nurses or physicians to observe in clinical areas with the aim of learning about new methods for treating oncology patients, clinical trial protocols, etc. These visitors have no patient care and are accompanied by a Moffitt nurse or physician while they are in clinical areas.
Education and training are key aspects of the scientific mission at Moffitt, to train the next generation of researchers, it is crucial to help trainees obtain new knowledge, learn new skills relevant to a career in research and gain the experience necessary to attain future educational and training opportunities, among others.
