Advanced Radiation Oncology Fellowship

Program Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center currently employs 17 faculty across all disease sites except for Pediatrics. This includes a full-time brachytherapist (as well as two others who do brachytherapy as well) covering a wide range of disease sites. The cancer center ensures not only a large number of patients but also uncommon diseases/disease presentation.

The Department of Radiation Oncology offers a 1 year fellowship in Advanced Radiation Oncology to physicians interested in specialized training and/or research experience beyond residency. Training design and focus can be personalized to meet the interest of the selected applicant.  The fellow is expected to spend three months in clinic with our Department Chair, Dr. Lou Harrison, former ASTRO President and world-renowned brachytherapist, treating a variety of head/neck and skin cancers. The remainder of the clinical schedule is entirely customizable. There would be no clinic rotation outside of Moffitt.

Research

The Fellow’s research endeavors can also be customized, depending upon the fellow’s specific research interests. For instance, s/he might collaborate, not only with members of the Department of Radiation Oncology, but potentially members of any of the following departments/programs: M2Gen (Moffitt’s Total Cancer Care initiative), the Department of Radiology, and/or the Department of Integrated Mathematical Oncology. There would be no rotation outside of Moffitt/at any other facility.  The Program Director will work with the fellow to define collaborators, as per the fellow’s particular research interests.
