Open Traditional Radical Prostatectomy Boca Raton
Men in Boca Raton, Florida, who are in need of an open traditional radical prostatectomy are encouraged to travel to Moffitt Cancer Center located in Tampa for treatment. Each of our fellowship-trained and board-certified surgeons specialize in a specific type of cancer, and our prostate cancer surgeons have experience in all types of prostate surgery techniques, from common to complex. In fact, Moffitt has developed an international reputation for being a world leader in complex cancer surgeries.
With a traditional radical prostatectomy, there are two main techniques used by our surgeons. A radical retropubic prostatectomy and a radical perineal prostatectomy both involve the surgical removal of the prostate gland and nearby tissues and lymph nodes. However, the latter involves an incision in the perineum, or the skin between the scrotum and the anus, and a retropubic prostatectomy involves an incision in the lower abdomen.
With Moffitt, each patient is treated by an entire surgical team, not just a single surgeon and physician. After a specific surgery is recommended, the surgical team will explain the procedure and answer any questions or concerns. Our surgeons care about their patients and make sure they are comfortable with the course of action being taken. Furthermore, each patient will be under the review of a “tumor board,” which will consist of medical professionals including:
- Surgeons
- Physicians
- Oncologists
- Anesthesiologists
- Nurses
- Radiologists
This tumor board will meet weekly to review the patient’s case, as well as the location, size and grade of the tumor. This group of medical professionals evaluates the patient’s needs to ensure proper treatment is being provided, giving the patient the benefit of several expert opinions without the need for referrals.
Patients coming from Boca Raton don’t need to worry about travel logistics getting in the way of receiving outstanding treatment and care at Moffitt. We’ve partnered with several local hotels that offer our patients discounted rates and meet or exceed our infection control standards, giving our patients an affordable and safe place to stay before, during and after treatment.
