Robotic surgery is a highly advanced treatment for pancreatic cancer available at Moffitt Cancer Center. Using the da Vinci® Surgical System, which is capable of making tiny, exact motions that are impossible to perform with an unaided human hand, our surgical oncologists remove pancreatic tumors with an exceptionally high level of precision.

Robotic surgery is performed using minimally invasive techniques, which can provide a number of benefits as compared to traditional pancreatic surgery. For instance, patients often spend less time in a hospital and are less likely to experience some surgical complications. Patients also tend to experience less scarring and postoperative pain and many return to their daily routines within an accelerated timeframe. And, while robotic surgery can be a promising option for many individuals, our surgeons also specialize in other minimally invasive and traditional open techniques, allowing our patients to receive the types of treatment that are most appropriate for their needs

As a high-volume cancer center, Moffitt has a team of surgeons who have extensive experience in performing robotic pancreatic operations. These procedures include:

  • Whipple procedures
  • Distal pancreatectomies
  • Total pancreatectomies

Because our surgeons perform many of these procedures each year, they are highly skilled at using our technologies to the benefit of our patients. And, by providing a comprehensive range of supportive care services both before and after surgery, we’re committed to helping our patients enhance their quality of life throughout the treatment process.
