Five Early Symptoms of Kidney Cancer
When kidney cancer first develops, it usually causes no symptoms. For tumors of sufficient size you may experience symptoms such as: stomach pain, fatigue, blood in the urine and back pain. As kidney tumors become larger they can cause more distinct complications as they place pressure on organs in the abdomen.
Additional warning signs of kidney cancer
In addition to abdominal pain and general fatigue, some of the most common symptoms of kidney cancer include:
- Blood in the urine
- Unexplained weight loss
- A chronic fever that is not caused by a viral or bacterial infection
- Anemia
- Swelling in the feet or ankles
How a physician can determine the cause of your symptoms
If you’re experiencing one or more of these symptoms, your physician may recommend several different diagnostic tests, such as bloodwork, urine tests, ultrasounds, computed tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans.
- In many cases, kidney cancer is detected before it spreads to other organs. Patients with early-stage kidney cancer often have a variety of treatment options, which typically are associated with a favorable outcome.
