A woman with her family

When healthy cells in the uterus change and grow out of control and form a mass or tumor, it is called uterine cancer. The uterus is the pear-shaped organ in a woman’s pelvis. It is also called the womb, where a baby grows when a woman is pregnant. The most common type of uterine cancer is also called endometrial cancer because it forms in the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium.

Choosing a Uterine Cancer Specialist in Florida

Uterine cancer is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States. It’s important that patients with gynecologic cancers seek the right treatment at initial diagnosis. At Moffitt Cancer Center, patients have access to a highly-experienced team of uterine cancer specialists, including:

  • Medical oncologists
  • Fellowship-trained surgeons
  • Pathologists
  • Radiologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Fertility preservation specialists

Individualized Treatment Options

The uterine cancer specialists in our gynecological clinic meet weekly to review each new patient’s treatment options in what is called a tumor board. In this way, every patient benefits from multiple expert opinions without the need to travel to various physician’s offices.

The most common type of uterine cancer treatment is surgery but options may also include a combination of the following therapies:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiation therapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Clinical Trials

Through our robust clinical trial offerings, we offer promising new treatments not available at other cancer centers. Because of Moffitt’s significant progress in researching and developing new cancer treatments, we have been designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute.
